New Fire Chief Appointed

The Derry, NH Fire Department will have a new Fire Chief effective July 28, 2003. Derry Town Administrator Carol Granfield has announced the appointment of Fire Chief George Klauber.

Chief Klauber is currently the Fire Chief in Waterbury, Connecticut. He has 26 years of municipal fire service experience in Waterbury (population: 107,000) and has held every position in the Department. As Fire Chief in Waterbury, Klauber oversaw fire operations and emergency management. He led 304 personnel working in thirteen fire companies. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science and Technology from Charter Oak State College and is also a graduate of the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer program. Chief Klauber is married and has a son and a daughter. He will assume his new position on July 28, 2003.

Since the retirement of Chief Ronald Stowers at the end of 2002, Battalion Chief Mike Crosby has been serving as Interim Chief. Chief Crosby will also be retiring in August, 2003 with over 30 years of service to the Derry Fire Department.
